AL - The S.W.A.T. Gym

This is a hardcore, serious gym.  It is owned by the great Bill Kazmaier.

Equipment: 2 cages, 2 squat racks, 2 benches, deadlift area, dumbbells up to at least 200 lb, and plenty of machines by Hammer Strength, Cybex and others.

Tunes: A stereo and CD player are available for lifters to play what they want.

Chalk: A chalk box is available, but may be empty.  Bring your own just in case.

We're opening the West GA Barbell Club in Carrollton, GA within the next few weeks.  It will be an addition to our current nutrition store "Beyond Nutrition"  It will be a 24-hour gym.  Very motivated Powerlifting team getting started here.  Gym is not yet complete, but feel free to drop by and workout free until then. 

Equipment:  dumbells up into the mid 100's, two power racks , two benches, flat bench, decline, incline, little cardio, deadlift platform, cable crossover, pulldown and row machines, and some others, using Texas Power Bars and Okie Deadlift Bars.

Equipment:  2 monolifts, safety squat bar, Okie deadlift bars, Texas power bar, power rack, excellent bench, and a bench built with a power rack.  Sarden made calf/ham/glute machine, leg ext, leg curl, and smith machine.  Also, bands and chains available.  Of course there is a place to deadlift.

Owned by Jon Grove.  Not sure how to tell somebody how to get in, but if one was to go by Coffee's Gym in Marietta and hang out for a while, they would find somebody that knows Jon and could tell them how to get there.

Iowa

IA - Des Moines Strength Institute

The owner, Dale Rhoades, has been involved in competitive olympic lifting and powerlifting since the 60's.  The Des Moines Strength Institute is a no frills powerlifting gym.  We have a core group of about 15-20 competitive powerlifters.  There are about six or seven of us that lift around 5:00 p.m. on Mon., Wed., and Fri.

The gym is open from 8 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Mon through Fri., 9 to 6 Sat., and 11 to 5 Sun.

Equipment:  power cage, five platforms for squatting, deadlifting, and oly lifting. They have three olympic bars, one okie bar, a trap bar, and several bars for squatting and benching.  Chalk is provided.  The facility has one cheap stair stepper, and a couple old exercise aerodyne bikes

1. Chalk:  you have to bring you own though

2. Tunes: crank it as loud as you want

3.  Equipment:  2 flat, 2 incline, 2 power racks, 2 pulldown machines, 1 cable crossover machine, leg ext and curl machines, 1 full set bands and chains available.  Manta ray, Db's up to 120lbs, build your own box for squatting or use mine and store is there.

4.  If the demand for a glute/ham or reverse hyper, safety squat and cambered squat bar is more then just me the owner will buy them

5.  I myself train WSB by the "book."

6.  Hardcore anything is welcome in this gym.  BBldrs, Wlftrs, and most of all PLrs!

The only remaining power gym in the Burlington, Vermont area is The Bodyworks.  It has moved out the aerobics classes and become a very serious place. Lots of very strong guys, it has a cage and plenty of room for moving weights around.

1000 sq ft. training facility. Located in northern Henrico County (aka, "Northside", Richmond, VA)  Features SportStrength Equipment (Fred "Dr. Squat" Hatfield's company)

Equipment (but not limited to):  Competition bench (w/ removable spotter rails, adjustable uprights, and "walkthrough" design), 8' power rack, hydraulic squat stands, dumbbells to 150's, Twinstack back machines (low row and pulldown), adjustable crossover pulleys, Glute-ham bench, Pro Ab machine, safety squat bar, 5 Texas Power Bars, Eleiko competition bar, Kraiburg bumper plates, chains (I need more!!!), Jump Stretch bands (all sizes), and growing!  The entire floor is 3/4" bully mats (recycled tires) on concrete.  There's no platform, but about 110 sq ft is designated for pulling (deadlifts, OL, etc.). Chalk is provided.

Perks:  Music is majority rule. I've got a 5-disc changer, so bring your own CD. If it passes a vote, it's on.  No contracts, no enrollment fees, no bank drafts. 30 dollars per month, you pay in advance, and you pay as you go.  Oh yeah, there's a bike, treadmill, and elliptical trainer in the "cardio section"...if that's what you're into.
